Bus facilities

A bus facility is a type of public transport infrastructure that is large and complex. The facility houses a bus garage, workshop, paint shop for buses and bus wash halls. It contains parking spaces with charging infrastructure for the new, large electric articulated buses. Furthermore, a bus facility has meeting rooms and break rooms for the drivers, with changing rooms, showers, toilets and kitchen.

We at VKT are currently responsible for two such large bus facilities. One is the Leiraveien bus facility in Lillestrøm, and the other is the Kjul bus facility in Nittedal.

These were two aged facilities, where we have restored, built new, and adapted them for sustainable operation. To ensure consideration for the surrounding environment, we have established new waste water management, light regulation and changed driving patterns to eliminate idling. New wash halls for the buses have been built, with a full 85% water saving, and a number of other major and minor environmental measures have been introduced, such as the replacement of windows in the administration building and the switch to LED lighting.
